Overnight down the Blue Ridge and ride the Dragon

Ride departs from Bagel City. In July, National HOG is having a special event, a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We noticed that the ride is Monday through Friday and only travels 260 miles in 4 days. Most of us like to ride over the weekend so we don't have to miss too much work, and that seemed like a very slow pace. But they will have a lot of bikes show up, and a lot of logistics to worry about, so maybe that is the best they can do. We decided we could probably put a chapter overnight trip together that will span the long Labor Day weekend, and we'll also get to ride the famous Dragon Tail in the Smokey Mountains. I've laid out a route that takes us down Skyline drive and the Blue Ridge, then cuts across to the Dragon, then heads for home. It is a 4 day 3 night trip staying in a different hotel each night. We have a room block in each hotel setup under MC HOG. Each hotel has a different room rate each night, but the total for 3 nights should run about $260 plus your gas, park entry and your food. There is also an option for people to stay a 4th night and come back home on Tuesday if you don't work or want to take an extra day off.

This should be a fantastically beautiful ride on an uncrowded road with your MC HOG buddies. Nothin' but fun, baby.

All room blocks are under "mc hog" and you must call each hotel separately and make reservations. Call Best Western and enroll in the new HOG program to get points for all nights on this trip 888-292-2453.

Friday Sept 3 Best Western Inn at Valley View 540-362-2400
Saturday Sept 4 Best Western Asheville Biltmore East 828-298-5562
Sunday Sept 5 Best Western Newport Inn 423-623-8713

And if you are taking it easy and returning Tuesday, book Monday night too, at the Friday night hotel. Length of ride: 500 total miles, 130 highway. 20 stops are planned. (JH)

Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania Ride

Ride departs from Bob Evans. This is our annual overnighter to the beautiful Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania in Northern Tioga County. The gorge is impressive, but the fall foliage and incredible mountain riding is the real treat of this journey. This is a joint chapter ride with our friends from the Old Glory chapter. We depart Friday morning and head up RT 15 until we pass Harrisburg, then take some country by-ways, stop for lunch, and get to Wellsboro that afternoon. On Saturday we take our scenic ride around the canyon and up to our new favorite spot, Pine View State Park, an overlook so high that hang-gliders launch from there. We have a room block setup at the Penn Wells Hotel (570-724-2111 under "MCHOG"). It is best to call during business hours and speak with Valerie. Check out the photo gallery ( www.mchog.com/PhotoGallery/2009Pictures/09GrandCanyon/09GrandCanyon.php) to see the great fun we had last year and the extraordinary beauty of this area.
